Ultimately, all we do must be for the purpose of bringing God glory. The specifics of how this is accomplished must be found in God’s Word.
What is the biblical mandate for Bethany Christian School? We find the answer in conjunction with the biblical mandate for the home to be the basis and center of personal development and in the biblical mandate for the church to build up the spiritual lives of its members. Thus our philosophy demands that our school does not function independently from, nor does it serve as a replacement for, believing parents or a strong local church.
Parents are responsible for the growth and development of their children. They are charged with cultivating a biblical worldview that permeates all details of daily living (Deuteronomy 6:1-16). Further, parents are given the responsibility to carefully rear their children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4).
The local church was given the task of making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20), which is carried out by a firm commitment to evangelize the lost (Luke 24:46-48), to build up believers (Acts 2:42; Acts 18:11), to worship together (Acts 2:41, 43, 46-47), and to fellowship with each other (Acts 2:42).
Bethany Christian School exists to glorify God by maturing youth for ministry and is thus an important edification ministry of First Baptist Church of Troy. Our entire program is designed to assist believing parents and students who desire to grow spiritually as they learn academically. Students must have a credible testimony of faith to be considered for admission. Also, as we consider enrollment applications, we expect both parents and students to share our view of who God is, what Scripture is, what man’s condition is apart from God, and what salvation is.
Within the context of our beliefs and philosophy, our classes are designed to provide rigorous academics that will help each student to reach his or her full potential for God’s glory. Our core curriculum and courses focus on average and above-average students. In addition, we offer services for exceptional students—including those who struggle academically and those who are advanced academically.
All of our classes are designed to help our students develop a biblical worldview and to appreciate God in His majesty, sovereignty, grace, and love. Our educational program is designed to develop the mind and transform the heart.
