BACKGROUND
Bethany Christian School is a ministry of First Baptist Church of Troy located in Troy, Michigan, a part of Metropolitan Detroit. It is an elementary and secondary academic institution containing grades kindergarten through twelve with an enrollment of approximately 300 students.
 
The school started in 1970 when church leaders saw the benefits of a Christian education with high academic standards. To date the school has graduated over 700 students.
 
SCHOOL YEAR & DAILY SCHEDULE
The school year containing approximately 180 days, starts a week before Labor Day and ends the week after Memorial Day. There are five core academic periods 50 minutes in length plus two elective periods 45 minutes in length.
 
EXPLANATION OF TRANSCRIPT
For the class of 2010, a total of 22 high school credits are needed to graduate from BCS. The grade point average is based on a 4 point scale, and a student’s rank in class is based solely on their GPA.
 
A student must complete the following academic requirements.
·         English Language Arts                            4 credits
·         Mathematics                                          4 credits
·         Science                                                 3 credits
·         Social Studies                                        3 credits
·         *Keyboarding                                        1 credit
·         P.E./Health                                            1 credit
·         Visual, Performing, or Applied Arts           1 credit
·         Bible                                                     2 credits
*The keyboarding requirement is waived for students taking foreign language.
 
On occasion a student may experience difficulty with the regular college-preparatory schedule due to academic deficiencies or learning difficulties. Any student that does not meet some of the above requirements has their transcript marked “General.” Substantive changes in academic requirements for specific classes will be noted either “with accommodations” or “modified curriculum.”
 
The grading scale is as follows.
·         A          93-100
·         B          84-92
·         C          71-83
·         D          65-70
·         F          64 or below
 
ACADEMIC STATISTICS
The average ACT score for the Class of 2008 is 24.0. All graduates are required to take the ACT. The average score for the top 80% of students for the class of 2008 is 25.2. The 3-year average ACT score is 23.7 and the 3-year average for the top 80% is 25.0.
 
Students in grades K-8 take the Stanford Achievement Test. BCS students score well above the national averages. Scores can be released upon request.
