Is Bethany Christian School right for me?

As you begin to learn more about Bethany Christian School, we encourage you to ask two important questions.
  • First, do you believe what we believe? If you’re not sure, please see our statements on doctrine and philosophy.
  • Second, do you want a conservative, Christian education?
If you answered "no" to either of these, BCS probably isn’t a good fit. But if you answered "yes," we encourage you to take a closer look. We believe you’ll find BCS offers a program that is notable for both its quality and its value.

Spiritual Development

We exist to glorify God by maturing youth for ministry. Our highest priority is the spiritual development of our young people.  If we graduate students who know about God, but do not know, love, and serve God, we fail.

BCS students regularly are confronted with truths about their Maker. We offer formal Bible exposition in chapel services and Bible classes. We also provide special times during the year for students to get away from the routine and get into God’s Word. Our high school students go to camp together at the start of each school year and our junior high students in the middle of each school year. Our seniors also take a special trip that is focused on matters of the heart as they prepare to move into the next major phase of life.

But beyond these specific times of instruction, students continually are presented with God’s Word as it pertains to all the academic disciplines. Every question is answered from a biblical worldview. Every staff member – from teachers to coaches to secretaries – is committed to pointing to Christ in daily life.

Academics

Students at BCS sit under the instruction of committed Christians who are skilled in their subjects and faithful to point young people to Christ. Our goal is to see that each student reaches his or her maximum potential for God’s glory. Our core program is aimed at students with average to above average performance. But recent improvements to our program allow us to also serve students with mild to moderate learning disabilities.  We think a Christian school should offer rigorous academic instruction that is appropriate for each student’s God-given abilities and that encourages students to excel for His glory.

We offer advanced college prep classes such as pre-calculus and calculus, anatomy, advanced biology, physics, and chemistry.  We offer Spanish classes twice a week in elementary school and as an elective beginning in seventh grade.

Our Learning Center, which opened in Fall 2009, allows us to support and supplement classroom instruction as we work toward our goal of enabling all students to succeed and excel. The center provides comprehensive reading services, advanced elementary math, and support and instruction for students with identified learning disabilities. All secondary students receive study skills training through the center, and fee-based tutoring is available in all subjects.

BCS is home to a robotics club that has taken prizes at numerous state and national competitions. The club fosters excellence in academics, teamwork, and sportsmanship through the application of math, science, and technology.

Fine Arts

Music is a defining feature of the ministries of both BCS and First Baptist Church of Troy. We equip students to use music to worship God and minister to each other. We want students to develop their musical abilities specifically for use in local church ministries. We also want to guide them as they develop their musical tastes. Our philosophy is to help them choose what is truly God-honoring and excellent instead of trying to get as close as possible to the line of worldliness.

BCS has dedicated band, choir, and string orchestra rooms. We offer private lessons in all standard band and orchestral instruments as well as in voice and piano.  Students have the opportunity to participate in numerous ensembles which are able to prepare and perform challenging musical selections.  These ensembles include brass, voice, percussion, and handbell.

Private studios provide quiet spots for lessons and rehearsal time.

Athletics

BCS offers a wide range of sports for boys and girls. In addition to standard physical education classes, our students may choose to play basketball, volleyball, baseball, and soccer. We also have a wrestling team for our boys and a cheerleading squad for our girls.
